Fun With Flax

Pat Old

Both are both kai-raranga or weavers of harakeke taught by the late Whaea Bibbins Tangitu at Te Wānanga o Aotearoa.

Both Pare and Pat graduated with a degree in Māori visual art and have run numerous wānanga workshops across the greater Tauranga area. They look forward to seeing you at the Waitangi Day celebration, nau mai haere mai.

Poi Workshop

Kathy Murray

Born and bred in Rotorua, Kathy has extensive experience performing Kapa haka within a number of groups starting 1979.
Kathy is a professional Poi maker of over 30 years for many Kapa haka Roopu in New Zealand.
Kathy will be doing a 1 hour Poi making session that explains the Whakapapa of Poi origins and will teach a song with Poi actions for the class to walk away with and learn in their own time.

Taonga

Jason Phillips

Born and bred in Rotorua, raised in and around the tourist entertainment industry, Jason has been the resident Taonga Puhoro exponent and Taamoko Artist at the Whakarewarewa Thermal Maori Village for over 20 years.
